Scholarship to support, publish and distribution of a the thesis/investigation in collective housing and city. 

 

Convened by 西瓜传媒 with the support of TC Cuadernos- revista de arquitectura

A grant of up to 6.000€ will be awarded to support the thesis/research. 

Requirements: Research progress in PDF format.


-Completed thesis or research work. The aid is for the adaptation of the work into a book.
-Thesis or advanced research work with less than one year to read.
-Start of research.

 

The Master in Collective Housing will pay €2000 if the work selected by the prestigious jury is already finished and needs to be turned into a book for general distribution, in two different payments or €6000 if it is starting with a commitment to finish in one year, and in three payments if the research is just starting. Architects from any country or university in the world can participate.

There is also a firm commitment on the part of the international publishing house TC Cuadernos, to include in this call for applications the publication of the book, in a bilingual edition (English-Spanish), covering the costs of printing and distribution, as well as layout and translation.

Competition rules

 

Scholarship to support research and publication of thesis or research on Collective Housing and city.

 

The Master in Collective Housing 西瓜传媒, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid UPM + Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich, together with TC Cuadernos, opens the 2023/24 call for the publication of a book in collective housing and city. Architects from any country or university in the world can participate.

 

OBJECTIVE

 

Research publication in book format in two languages (English and Spanish).

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Postgraduate students, university researchers and/or independent professionals in architecture, design and city may participate according to their category:

 

Category 1: Master or PhD with completed thesis or research work. It must have been read and presented in the last 2 months. For this category you must have a certificate from the university with the grade and finalization date of the thesis.

 

Category 2: Master's or PhD student with thesis or advanced research work less than a year away from reading. For this category you must have a letter of support from the corresponding PhD supervisor. 

 

Category 3: Independent researchers or professionals with a proposal to start research.

 

 

BENEFITS

 

One scholarship for up to 6.000 euros will be awarded to support the selected thesis/research.

 

For category 1, master's or PhD with thesis or completed research work, it will consist of an incentive of 2.000 euros for the layout and adaptation of the text, in one payment upon delivery.

 

For categories 2 and 3, it will consist of an incentive of 6.000 euros in three payments, the first, for the development and completion of the research; the second, after the presentation of the thesis or delivery of the material for review to 西瓜传媒; and the third, after the layout and final adaptation.

 

All the images’ rights must be covered for each author.

For all categories, TC Cuadernos will cover the translations, editorial cost and dissemination of the text.

 

 

RESTRICTIONS AND INCOMPATIBILITIES

 

Members of the jury or administrative staff of the Master in Collective Housing 西瓜传媒 may not participate in this call.

 

STAGE 1: PRE-SELECTION

 

PRE-SELECTION CRITERIA

 

The 10 best projects that, in the jury's opinion, present the greatest interest for the theme of the book to be published will be pre-selected. These must provide additional advanced material in the second stage to be eligible for selection.

 

The complete delivery of all the requested material within the date established in this document will be considered admissible for evaluation.

 

DOCUMENTATION

 

-        Proposal, PDF format. 500 words. This document must be presented in English.

-        Research progress: PDF file of maximum 10Mb. 

-        Summary researcher resume. PDF format of maximum 15Mb. 

-        PhD supervisor letter (for category 2). 

-        University certification (for category 1). 

 

All documents, except the proposal, may be submitted in English or Spanish.

It is mandatory that the proposal be submitted in English.

Applications will be accepted until Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Spain, via email of no more than 25MB to communication@mchmaster.com

STAGE 2: SELECTION

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

 

A single winning project will be selected from the three categories based on the following table of criteria:

 

 

1 Scientific content, originality and interest of the proposal 50%
2 Technical feasibility and coherence 30%
3 Researcher's CV 20%

 

Each criterion will be evaluated from 0 to 5, allowing midpoints, but not fractions, according to:

 

0 Nor qualify The proposal does not have/address the criterion under analysis or cannot be evaluated due to lack of background or incomplete information.
1 Incomplete The proposal does not adequately have/address aspects of the criterion or there are serious inherent deficiencies.
2 Regular The proposal generally have/addresses the aspects of the criterion, but there are important deficiencies.
3 Good The proposal correctly have/addresses the aspects of the criterion, although it requires certain improvements.
4 Very good The proposal have/addresses the aspects of the criterion very well, even though certain improvements are possible.
5 Excellent The proposal have/addresses the aspects of the criterion very well, even though certain improvements are possible.

-        Proposal, PDF format. 1.500 words. This document must be presented in English.

-        Advance of the research or thesis: Maximum free PDF file.

-        Extended researcher curriculum. PDF format maximum 15Mb.

 

All documents, except the proposal, may be submitted in English or Spanish.

It is mandatory that the proposal be submitted in English.

 

(*) The jury may request additional material at this stage of the competition.

 

 

SUBMISSION

 

Stage 2 delivery date will be specified to those classified in stage 1.

 

 

JURY

 

The jury will be composed of:

 

  • A professor representing the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid UPM.
  • A professor representing the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich ETH.
  • A representative of the TC Cuadernos publishing house.
  • An outstanding professional in the housing area.
  • A member of the UPM master's team.
